Nordic Union - Who we are
The Nordic Union for Workers in the Hotel, Restaurant, Catering and Tourism Sector (NU HRCT) is a federation of seven trade unions in Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark, which coordinates and strengthens the cooperation within the Nordic HRCT sector.
NU HRCT is the voice of 100.000 members at Nordic, European and Global level. Everything NU HRCT does is for the benefit of the employees in the Nordic hotel, restaurant, catering and tourism sectors against the background of preserving the cornerstones of the Nordic model – the right to free collective bargaining and cooperation with employers.
NU HRCT has the following objectives:
- To bring together all trade unions that organize workers in the HRCT sector in the Nordic area
- To improve the working conditions of members through joint support and solidarity
- To work for broad political and strategic Nordic cooperation aimed at safeguarding and expanding the Nordic model
- To coordinate the work of member unions and influence developments in the European Federation of Food, Agriculture and Tourism Trade Unions (EFFAT) and the International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers’ Associations (IUF), and in particular:
- To maintain and increase the visibility of the HRCT industry at the national, Nordic, European and international levels
- To support workers in global hotel, restaurant and catering chains through coordination of EWC work and help to engage in dialogue with employers
- To promote and influence processes relating to skills development and lifelong learning for workers in the HRCT industry
- To help member unions share experience and information regarding collective agreements and organizational matters
- To coordinate union activities and activities relating to union and industry-related matters of common interest
- To coordinate activities with other unions working with related sectors
- To coordinate positions and engage in various issues, pursuing them in a Nordic perspective
